The challenge of Mucca Design when creating the identity for the New York restuarant, Schiller’s, was to evoke something that felt vintage, warm, and reminiscent of a ‘family-owned downtown joint.’ A combination of various styles and applications of custom typography, from hand drawn type, to floor tiling, to neon signage, were used throughout the Eastern-European-inspired café, aligning itself with the character of the Lower East Side neighbourhood.

Calligrapher Nancy Howell created the logo, which was fabricated into a neon exterior signage on Rivington.

In keeping with the handcrafted feel of the Schiller’s brand, Mucca Design created an original typeface using character randomization to give the menu a unique handwritten appearance, yet it allows the flexibility to update it as often as needed.

Given the warmth and authenticity found within every detail, it’s not hard to see why this is a staple among locals.
